A week after my birthday in October, a few ladies and I decided to go on a healthy eating challenge.  I had been on a plant based challenge some time ago with my friend Ogechi when I lived in London so I knew what to expect. It was called the Carol Voderman Diet. I still probably have the old DVD video somewhere in my store. I knew this challenge was effective because of previous trials  but like any challenge as soon as you go back to your previous eating, all your issues come rolling back. So I decided very quickly that even though this was a challenge for my girlfriends, it was something I wanted to do as a permanent way of life especially if I want to get rid of some stomach issues.

HOW HAS IT BEEN?

So far so good. After the initial two weeks of feeling deprived I honestly feel better. I don’t even want to put any unhealthy food in my stomach. My digestive system has never felt better. Everything moves hahaha. I have more energy and I am now able to add the fitness aspect to my lifestyle. When I first started, I felt sluggish but now my energy has really picked up. I am trying to challenge myself to do at least 10,000 steps  4 times a week. (Wish me favour hehehe)

WHAT’S MY ROUTINE

Aside from the food plant lifestyle I also decided to change my eating pattern. I follow what’s called Intermittent Fasting which means I start eating from about midday and have my last meal by 6pm. It just helps my digestive system and to be honest I am really not a breakfast person.  So first thing in the morning after my quiet time I will drain one gallon of water with lemon.  At midday I eat lunch and then a light dinner. I try to drink as much water as possible. My diet consists of several types of vegetables, pulses, salads, grains, oats, soya milk and sometimes fruits. Sometimes I have rice and pasta with lots of veggies. I’ve been experimenting a lot and my wok is now my best friend.

WHAT’S CHANGED?

Because my plant based diet consists mainly of vegetables  I rarely feel hungry. I don’t have sugar cravings. I don’t think about food the way I use to. My taste buds have changed and when I eat something really sweet it taste’s awful.

SOME FACTS

For the record, I am not a vegan. If I feel like eating chicken or fish I will do. I don’t have any restrictions on what I eat but I choose to make healthier choices so less meat. I do take vitamin B12 as a supplement. It’s recommended. Always consult with your doctor before you change your diet especially if you have medical challenges.

On this new lifestyle I rarely weigh myself or measure. I don’t want to become a slave to the scales but it’s only natural that the weight will come off just because one is eating more healthy. I am more concerned with a healthier lifestyle.

With love always
